Guangzhou is renowned for its gardens, flowers, and the Canton Fair, offering a wide range of attractions and activities to explore. To fully appreciate all the city has to offer, it is best to stay for an extended period and choose a high-quality hotel. The five-star Guangzhou Garden Hotel is a luxurious option, providing exquisite cuisine, exceptional service, a beautiful garden, and cosy accommodations. During my four-night stay at the hotel, I had a memorable experience.
Hotel description
The Garden Hotel comprises two buildings, the Hotel Tower and the Garden Tower, situated on a 48,000 m² site, with 20,000 m² of gardens. The hotel's logo features the kapok, the city flower of Guangzhou, a large deciduous tree known for its striking orange-red flowers. During my visit in late March, the kapok trees were in full bloom. The hotel offers 828 guest rooms and suites, 151 apartments, eight multi-function rooms, a ballroom, and nine dining halls. The Health Club and spa are located on the 4th-floor Roof Garden. Recreational facilities include an outdoor swimming pool, gym, steam room, sauna, and tennis and squash courts. Additionally, the hotel features a business centre, shopping arcade, and parking.
Location
The Garden Hotel is situated in the bustling business district of the city, just 35 kilometres from Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport. It is also conveniently close to the main railway station, ferry terminals, and ports. The hotel offers shuttle services to both the airport and the railway station. Additionally, it is next to Taojin Subway Station on Metro Line 5, providing easy access to various city attractions such as Yuexiu Park, Luhu Park, Beijing Road Cultural Tourism Zone, and the Canton Tower.
Address: 368 Huanshi Dong Lu, Guangzhou
Arrival and check-in
I arrived at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport after midnight on a late-night flight from Sanya. Upon arrival, I was welcomed at the arrivals hall and escorted to a comfortable Mercedes-Benz S300L limousine for a half-hour ride to the hotel. If you arrive at a more convenient time of day, you can conveniently take Airbus No. 2 to the hotel lobby for just 17 RMB, as it runs every 15 minutes. The hotel made a great first impression with its impressive lobby decor, which blends Chinese and Western cultural elements, showcasing traditional Chinese culture and Lingnan art. I was pleased that the hotel night manager efficiently handled my late check-in to my suite.
Suite
I stayed in the spacious 96 m2 Garden Executive Suite on the 25th floor. Designed specifically for the comfort and convenience of executives, the suite includes a modern mini-bar, a business area, and a gym facility, making it ideal for business-related activities, meetings, and more. The bathroom features a sizable walk-in shower and a large bathtub, along with two toilet facilities. A bathrobe and slippers were provided for my convenience. I appreciated a comfortable bed, soft pillows and soft bed linen. I was pampered with exclusive sweets every morning.
Breakfast
Hotel guests have the option of enjoying breakfast at three different restaurants. The first choice is the Carousel Restaurant on the 30th floor, where guests can take in panoramic views of Guangzhou while sampling a variety of international dishes. The second option is the Waterfall Restaurant on the ground floor, which offers a pork-free breakfast menu and a view of an 18-metre waterfall.
The third option is the Peach Blossom Restaurant on the third floor, which serves Chinese breakfast set menus.
Guests with access to the executive lounge can also enjoy a private breakfast experience. Personally, I preferred the Carousel Restaurant for its diverse menu and stunning views, as well as the executive lounge for its intimate atmosphere and outdoor seating.
Restaurants
The LN Garden Hotel is the only hotel in Guangzhou with four restaurants recognised by the Michelin Guide. Among them are one two-Michelin-starred restaurant, one one-Michelin-starred restaurant, and two Michelin Guide Selected restaurants. In addition, the hotel offers various international dining options, including Chinese, Western, and Japanese cuisine. Guests can expect top-notch five-star dining experiences and impeccable service. During my stay, I had the chance to dine at the Taian Table Restaurant for dinner and enjoy a set-menu lunch at the Peach Blossom Restaurant.
Two-Michelin-starred Taian Table Restaurant
If you enjoy creative and refined dining with a modern touch, Taian Table may be the perfect fit for you. The kitchen team uses top-quality ingredients from around the globe to create sophisticated dishes in an open kitchen setting, utilising European cooking techniques. The restaurant offers an exclusive eight-course tasting menu, which changes every two months, alongside seasonal and signature options. The cuisine is contemporary, drawing inspiration from European dishes while seamlessly incorporating flavours from Asia and beyond. Service is focused on showcasing the finest seasonal ingredients through the eight-course tasting menus. I had the opportunity to enjoy a customised tasting menu based on my preferences, and watching the meal preparation was a unique experience.
Located on the 2nd floor, the restaurant is open for dinner service Wednesday through Saturday from 18.00. With 18 counter stools and two booths for two guests each, Taian Table offers an intimate dining experience.
Peach Blossom Restaurant
The Peach Blossom Restaurant, managed by renowned chef Wen Sine, has been consistently featured in the Michelin Guide for several years. The restaurant sources fresh seasonal ingredients from various regions and utilises Cantonese cooking techniques to create a unique fusion cuisine. Inspired by the Three Kingdoms era, the restaurant aims to bring diners together from all corners of the globe. The interior is adorned with portraits and scenes from the classic novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Specialising in home-style Cantonese dishes, the restaurant offers seasonal specialities made from scratch. Do not miss their famous barbecue meat and dim sum. I had a delicious lunch there with a tasting menu.
Located on the 3rd floor, the restaurant serves lunch from 11.00–14.30 and also offers breakfast and dinner options.
Executive club lounge
I felt privileged to have access to the executive club lounge at the LN Garden Hotel on the ground floor. Guests can enjoy four complimentary food and beverage offerings daily, including buffet breakfast, afternoon tea, and happy hour, as well as coffee, tea, and soft drinks throughout the day. The lounge features comfortable seating with relaxing chairs, tables, and sofas, providing ample space to unwind after a day of sightseeing or business meetings. The food island is filled with freshly prepared delicacies, elegantly displayed on a glass table.Outdoor seating offered an opportunity to enjoy the best garden views. Just don't feed fish.
Back garden
The Garden Hotel is named after its garden and highlights the harmonious beauty of flowers and gardens in its design. The distinctive back garden of Lingnan Garden, themed 'the remoteness of the earth is like a neighbour', spans an area of 10,000 m². It features large murals like Wild Goose Wall and Night Mooring on Maple Bridge, rockeries, an 18-metre waterfall, pavilions, and lush vegetation. Each element has its unique characteristics that complement one another, showcasing the light, elegant, and transparent style of Lingnan architecture while seamlessly blending architecture and garden art.
Swimming pool and SPA
The contemporary health centre is well-equipped with high-quality fitness equipment, a sauna, a steam room, an outdoor swimming pool, and a health dance room, serving as a convenient space for wellness and relaxation. The swimming pool is open from 7.00 to 21.00, although the water may be slightly cool at the end of March as it is not heated. However, the Jacuzzi provides a comfortably warm alternative. As someone who enjoys massages, I treated myself to a foot massage at the beauty centre on the 5th floor of the Garden Tower.
Garden Hotel Museum
The Garden Hotel Museum is the inaugural museum in China that delves into the historical and contemporary stories of both Chinese and foreign hospitality. It is the premier themed museum dedicated to the hospitality sector. Located on the 4th floor of the Garden Hotel, the museum spans an area of around 1,600 m². The museum's scope extends beyond the hospitality industry, encompassing broader narratives of tourism and culture in the new era of cultural tourism integration. Its operating hours are Tuesday through Sunday from 9.30 to 19.30.
Time of stay: Four nights in spring 2025.
Price per night: Premier King Bed Room flash prices start from 85 euros per night. I stayed at the Garden Executive Twin Bed Suite. Its price is more than 300 euros per night without taxes.
My rating: 5/5.
