In 1323, the first Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas ordered to lay the foundation of the Lida castle. The Castle was built at the Kamenka and Lideika river junction. It was a part of defense line against the crusaders. In 1422 at Lida Castle the wedding of 71-year-old King Wladyslaw Jagiello and 17-year-old Sophia Golshanskaya was celebrated. Sophia later became the mother of the kings of the Jagiellonian dynasty. Lida Castle has served as a prototype of the Mir Castle, built by Lida mayor Yuri Ilyinich.
