Lida castle

Lida Castle 12In 1323, the first Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas ordered to lay the foundation of the Lida castle. The Castle was built at the Kamenka and Lideika river junction. It was a part of defense line against the crusaders. In 1422 at Lida Castle the wedding of 71-year-old King Wladyslaw Jagiello and 17-year-old Sophia Golshanskaya was celebrated. Sophia later became the mother of the kings of the Jagiellonian dynasty. Lida Castle has served as a prototype of the Mir Castle, built by Lida mayor Yuri Ilyinich.
